The carnival clock is ticking as many Mas Bands are getting prepared for the yearly Carnival Road March in September. And while on Carnival Day we get to enjoy the beautiful costumes on display, raising the money needed to make those costumes is another story altogether.
Fundraising drives have begun already for the Pickstock Junior Carnival Band. On Saturday night, the group will be hosting a pageant at the Holy Redeemer Parish Hall where 6 young queens will be taking the stage. 7news caught up with the girls at practice.
Gareth Gill, Pageant coordinator
"The reason for this pageant is because we are getting ready to get out there for road march so that we can put our costume on the road. We don't want no hold back just like last year, last year we went through difficulties getting our costumes on the road. This year we don't want that, so we are trying to push and we are trying to fundraise quicker and much better because more or less if we start earlier our costume can be out there for road march 2012."
"We have 6 beautiful contestants and their titles are all the events that led up to carnival. We have miss carnival, miss motorcade, miss king and queen, miss road march, miss j'ouvert and miss lotto pick - all the nicknames start they got are the events which leads up to carnival day."
The pageant is set for Saturday night. Tickets are priced to sell at six dollars for adults and 4 dollars for children.
