This morning, the Ministry of Public Service and the Belmopan City Council officially inaugurated the Public Service Walk of Recognition and Inspiration.
It's a public monument that has been built in Belmopan to honor the hard-working and outstanding members of the public service, many of whom are currently on the frontlines in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
The Belmopan City Council and the Ministry of Public Service signed the memorandum of understanding for his construction 2 months ago, and the finished product serves a secondary purpose. Today, it served as an alternative to the annual Public Service Gala Awards, which was canceled because of the pandemic.
So, to honor the awardees instead, their names have been engraved into the monument, which will now serve as a symbol of excellence in public service. At today's ceremony, Frank Mena, the Minister of State with responsibility for the public service, had many kind words to say about the public officers who are being recognized this year:
The Ministry of Public Services says that public officers can be recognized for excellence based on two categories. The long service award recognizes public officers who have served for 30 years or more. Public officers and ministries that have displayed initiative and acts of heroism, such as frontline workers, can be nominated for the outstanding award.
