It's a long held Christmas tradition and the annual Salvation Army luncheon took place today at Holy Redeemer primary school.

More than 500 children gathered to receive a little extra Christmas cheer courtesy of the organization and other stakeholders. We stopped by the busy event this morning as children from different schools and ages huddled around in excitement receiving balloons, ice cream and food. Here's what the organizers told us:

Marceddoy Momplaisir, Salvation Army

"As you know the Salvation Army in Belize is well known, and today we just have this event to celebrate with the children. More than 500 children will receive food and gifts for today and we strongly believe that when the children are happy, we are happy when they have a little smile on their face. We have it as well, that's why we are having this event here today."

"It's an annual thing every year we have it not only only for the children and we are planning as well to go to the hospital the homeless and some outreach program where those I don't want to say marginalized but you know those were unable we are going to them and going to make them happy with some hampers some parcels just to wish them merry Christmas."

Fred Chu, Belize Chinese Christian Church

"We are very happy today actually today to celebrate the Christmas with so many children together. This is not our first time that we were invited. we have been invited by the salvation Army for the past 1015 years already to participate in this event and I think the Christmas is all about caring and joy so we are very joyful. We feel very happy today and we also come with some ice cream every year we bring and we share with the lovely kids."
