Tonight we note the passing of former Postmaster General, house speaker, chair of the Public Service Commission, and namesake of one of the most visited public buildings in Belize: Charles Bartlett Hyde.
Hyde died on Saturday at the age of 100. He was noted as a stellar and long serving public officer - and in 2008 when the CB Hyde building was named after him, he remembered his roots on West Canal:
Charles B. Hyde

"It is a great honour that my countrymen have seen fit to bestow on me and I am deeply moved and grateful to all who have been involved in naming this imposing building after me. I am almost persuaded by what they have said, that I might be deserving of this honour. I can say that in Belize, a boy born on canal side can have an important public building named after him, while he is still alive."
CB Hyde was the father of 9 children, including the publisher of Amandala, Evan X Hyde.
