Belizean university students will soon be able to get a degree from a top U.S. university right here in Belize. At least that is the hope being offered by Galen University. This morning Galen which has been offering business degrees for about 5 years in Belize announced an alliance with the University of Indianapolis. How will it work? Well Galen students will be able to sit their classes in Belize and receive credits towards their Indianapolis University degree. Galen's Vice-President Marion Palacio explains.
Marion Palacio, Galen Vice President
"This gives Belizean students an opportunity to get a U.S. degree from a tier one university right here in Belize. It also gives an opportunity to international students to get that kind of degree here. We have signed an agreement with the University of Indianapolis in which we would serve as a regional campus for them so students would enroll into a University of Indianapolis program at Galen with Galen University faculty delivering the program. Actually the students get a dual degree. They get a Galen University and a University of Indianapolis degree assuming that they meet all requirements, and the requirements are well spelt out and students who apply to the university will now what those requirements are at the get-go.
Straight out of high school, a student with grade C or higher on their transcript could apply to the University and enter into a 4 year program. Students could also transfer from junior college or sixth form into Galen University. Those courses that they transfer would have to have an equivalent course in our program and have to have a grade C or higher."
Galen through the University of Indianapolis will offer bachelor degrees in anthropology, archaeology, environmental science, economics and finance, marketing, business administration, and international business. The deadline for submission of applications is in August and the application fee is $30. You can find out more about Galen at http://www.galen.edu.bz.
