It's widely acknowledged that Belize's aviation industry is mostly un-regulated. And that's why the Department of Civil Aviation began a two day seminar today: to try and lay the groundwork for a safer, more well regulated industry. It is being spearheaded by the COCESNA Flight Safety Agency along with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration Safety Team. Nigel Carter of the Belize Civil Aviation Authority explains that the seminar is to try and bring Belize's aviation up to speed with the rest of the world.

"The seminar is to disseminate information to the general aviation public. This information to be disseminated is based upon Belize regulations and the accompanying surveillance. As well we will be passing on information with regards to human factors, safety management systems, and runway incursions. We are trying to bring up our standards to international world standards. We had promised that we would be taking steps to improve aviation safety in Belize. This is part of it, we're educating the general aviation public."
The seminar wraps up tomorrow.
