Union firebrand Elena Smith was the media darling and campaigned on the promise that she would bring change to the Teacher's Union. But today Elena Smith was rejected in her bid for Teacher's Union President. The new president of the National Teacher's Union is the candidate from the Cayo District Jaime Panti.
451 votes were case in the national convention in Cayo and it finished just before 6:00 pm. The winner Jaime Panti received 278 votes for president and Elena Smith received 189 - an 89 vote margin of victory.
Endevora Jorgenson was re-elected as national secretary, and Victor Williams is the treasurer.
They will serve terms of two years. Outgoing three term president Anthony Fuentes will now go on study leave.
