Well, the verdict is in: the teachers union is officially not happy with the Ministry of Education's free textbook programme. A release from the BNTU says the policy is good, but it is, "grossly flawed" because of its suddenness. The release says there was no proper or recent consultation with stakeholders, school managers, principals, teachers, parents, or the union.

And according to the union, because there was no consultation or testing phase, the plan to hold workshops for 2,500 teachers in august is overly ambitious. Also the union says the language coming from the Ministry has been disrespectful and threatening considering the lack of good faith negotiations.

The union concludes that the pursuit of political expediency has taken precedence over well thought out actions.
