This evening, 7NEWS received reports from senior sources in the UDP saying that 6 senior managers at City Hall had given the Mayor notice of resignation. 7NEWS has seen a copy of a letter of resignation, bearing the signatures of 6 managers saying that they are resigning, and giving the council two weeks notice, so they would leave office on July 23rd.
So what's behind it? And is it for real? Well, the letter refers briefly to decisions made by the Council but does not elaborate. Included among those resigning managers are Dale Trujeque and Kenny Morgan who, we should note are both considered to be strong UDP supporters.
When we reached him for comment, Human Resources Manager Trujeque would only say he could not comment, and was in a meeting with, "his mayor." But Trujeque would also not deny the report, saying simply that he won't discuss it. But Kenny Morgan did. He said that he, "knows nothing about it." But from what we saw, Morgan's signature is right there on the letter.
So is it mischief or mayhem at the council? Well, the vibes we are getting tell us it's more mayhem than it is mischief, but a bit of brinkmanship may also be factoring in. We were unable to reach the Mayor or the Deputy Mayor for comment.
