Leadercast Belize held its fifth annual leadership conference today, but this year - instead of taking up hundreds of chairs in a big hotel conference room, it was held virtually.
While there were concerns that many people would not be able to benefit from the conference, the host, Dr Dionne Chamberlain, explained that the participants are fully engaged in the presentation.
She also explained that this year's theme, "Positive Disruption," is fitting with COVID-19 being a major obstacle.
Dr Dionne Chamberlain, Host, Leadercast Belize
"We're excited because we thought we would only be able to have a hundred people but what our participants did for us is that they gathered in a room so we actually have over 150 participants just that, say for instance, Madisco - they're in a room six feet apart but ten of them are in that room talking to us."
"The very first speaker talked about the fact that as leaders, we have to first be human; we have to lead with clarity. We can't lead with certainty because with covid-19 we don't know what's going to happen tomorrow but you have to be clear, you have to engage with your people. Our second speaker spoke about being yourself and getting out of position where you are being stressed to be someone else. Our third speaker spoke to us about the importance of pruning - getting rid of the clutter in your lives. Getting rid of people, things, environments that are affecting your particular growth and identifying where you want to go."
This year's leader worth following award went to Armando Gomez, the manager at Orange Walk's ITVET.
