Yesterday the PUP announced their educational task force which will focus on how to reopen schools safely and responsibly, hopefully for the upcoming school year.
Well, without missing a beat, the opposition party, in the form of the shadow ministry for the Ministry of Education, issued a release condemning the composition of the task force.
They complain that, quote, "The composition reflects persons who are clueless about the realities of the average and the most disadvantaged Belizean student. This COVID-19 Task Force as it is constituted, is blue highlighter used to show up the incestuous nature of this administration's way of doing things." End quote.
And if that wasn't already a mouthful, they even called out the BNTU, who they referred to as being "now mute."
After years of disagreements between the former MOE and the union, the shadow ministry has lashed out once again, saying they hope that the BNTU can, quote, "find its voice to champion the issues for teachers, unlike its failure to advocate for the teachers' whose retirements are now held up because this administration has hamstrung the Public Service Commission, the body that approves teachers' retirement."
The UDP is calling on the government to reconstitute the COVID-19 Educational Task Force to make it more geographically balanced.
