This morning, the Statistical Institute of Belize released its labor force survey - basically a digest of Belize's employment and unemployment figures. But first, a bit of housekeeping is necessary for you to understand the survey.
First, there is what the SIB refers to as the Working Age Population. This was the total amount of Belizeans who were of legal age and can work. Then, as part of that group, there was the Labour Force or those who were actually employed at the time of the study. There was also another portion of the Working Age population who had no interest in working at the time. Those who were not a member of that group are considered outside of the labor force.
Then, in the labor force, there are unemployed persons. These are individuals who were looking for work during the time of the survey. Then, there are the employed persons, and among that sub-grouping, there are the under-employed Belizeans who would definitely work more hours if they could.
