The People's Constitutional Commission is making its educational campaign rounds across all sectors of society. Today, they stopped in at Price Barracks in Ladyville where their target audience was a group of BDF soldiers.

Brigadier General Azriel Loria who helped to coordinate the sit down with the PCC says that by educating the soldiers about the contents and elements of the constitution this will enable them to have a better understanding of the law and the rights that they have.

Glensfield Dennison, Vice Chairperson, PCC

"Today we are launching what is called one of our educational campaigns. We have been invited by the general to present to the soldiers of Belize and those primarily at price barracks on what is in the constitution and we are focusing on the provisions of the constitution that directly relate to military service. Those in my mind have to do with the territorial integrity of Belize, what will obtain in states of emergency And we will as citizens of Belize we will ensure that we give them a good understanding of their fundamental rights."

"For now the general has allowed us 100 BDF soldiers and the hope is that these 100 soldiers will be able to disseminate what they've learned today throughout the rest of the military service."

Azariel Loria, Brigadier General

"About a month ago Ms Maria Zabaneh who is the coordinator for the region here got in contact with me and she mentioned that it is of utmost importance to have a meeting with us with the military because because there are changes that are going to be made within the constitution of Belize and the military we are a segment of the population of Belize here and hence the reason we decide that yup this is of top priority to us."

"The soldiers do not know it in detail. Myself I don't know it. I've read the book a couple times, but the private soldiers they only know the basic elements of it that they are entitled to education work, being able to move around, their freedom and so forth. But with this meeting here that is being broadcasted live to the other bases I think that they will be able to have a better knowledge on what the constitution is and what it is that needs to be amended."

Approximately 100 soldiers attended today's session.
