With over 500 cruise visitors a week, Goff's Caye is under more stress than Saddam Hussein in an Iraqi courtroom, and now the Caye should be getting some relief as the Coastal one management authority Will be running it.
Next Tuesday, Minister of Natural Resources Hon. John Briceno will sign an agreement which will allow Coastal Zone technicians to run the Caye according to a management plan which will make sure that it is sustainably used. The first priority will be the installation of docking facilities, the installation of environmentally safe toilets, and a garbage disposal system.
Who'll pay for all this? Well the plan says that non-Belizean visitors will pay a $10 visitation tax. On Tuesday, we'll have coverage of the signing.
