Sometime last night or early this morning a there was a small landslide at mile 7 on the Northern Highway, causing a portion of the road to tumble into the Belize River. It's the area right in front of the Courtenay estate, and today it just rolled into the river when a retaining wall on the riverside gave way.

Today the Chief Engineer in the Ministry of Works Cadet Henderson said that they were aware that it had been failing. Still, nothing was done today until it gave way. Now, one lane of the highway has been closed and a private company has been contracted to fill the area. But that means traffic will get worse tomorrow, as a crane will be driving piles - and the one lane that is opened will become even narrower.

Piling should be finished tomorrow, but work will continue For three days, so those who drive on that portion of the highway are advised to make extra accommodations for slow traffic.
