Did you turn off your lights between 8:30 and 9:30 on Saturday Night? From what we saw of Belize City, most didn’t but a few did. And they had company in the thousands of cities and town that participated worldwide. In Belize City, there was a walk with folks carrying candles sparkles – seen here, and there was a similar activity in San Pedro Town where there was also a campfire. Belmopan had a torch run and Corozal had candlelight walk.

This year marked the first year that Belize and other countries within the wider Central American region participated in Earth Hour. First Lady Kim Barrow and other members of the Lifeline Foundation showed their support by turning off lights at their black and white gala event held at the Belize City House of Culture on Saturday night.

As for us at Channel 7, we did our part to conserve in partnership with BEL, where we had a three hour blackout on Friday and a few intermittent outages on Saturday.
