During last night's newscast, we showed you 2 destructive fires that occurred in Belize District. Last Saturday, an industrial fire destroyed the Tu'Kan Foam Factory, at mile 13 on the George Price Highway. Then, there was the multi-building blaze yesterday on Albert Street.

The National Fire Service is hoping that the general public will take a proactive role in trying to prevent these types of disasters. This afternoon, the Station Supervisor discussed a few best practices which the experts think will help to protect you from those types of emergency situations.

He said that Belizeans should consider installing fire safety features to protect their homes, offices, or business place:

According to the fire investigators, the fire on Albert Street was caused by faulty wiring. Kenneth Mortis told us that the wiring for the building where the fire started was very old. Today, he said that homeowners and building owners need to consider rewiring their property every 20 years, to ensure that natural wear and tear doesn't become a fire hazard:

Mortis stressed that in the case of the fire on Albert Street, the persons inside Klara's Kitchen were in very real danger from the fire. That's because they had no warning that another section of the building was burning.
