We also asked about the City Council's other pilot project to provide electric city buses. The program fits with BEL's push for work drivers to embrace their National Electric Vehicle Charging Ecosystem, launched two months ago.
Here's the update:
Daniel Ortiz
"If you could quickly discuss the electric buses program. I don't know if it's in full effect as yet and if it is, please invite us to see it."
Bernard Wagner - Mayor, Belize City Council
"[It's] a good thing you brought that up, Daniel. Actually, we had a meeting this week with UNDP. As you know, the UNDP is a project manager for that project, funded through the EU. It's a grant fund where we will be launching a pilot project for the city, which encompasses the neighborhood of tree buses. We are working out the route for those buses. We really want to fine-tune the route so that that we are able to get the necessary data to see how the bus rolls out in the terrain of Belize City, the stop and go, see what time frame it loops along the route so that we have it down to a tee. And that is what we are doing with this pilot project. We feel that if we are able to have it become a reliable and efficient e-transit system, then we'll contribute to the lowering of CO2 in our air. We'll have fewer people having to use their private vehicles to come to their jobs. And so, we will have less congestion, less pollution. And we are then contributing to our sustainable development goals."
