A whole section of the Phillip Goldson Highway entering Belize City is sinking and today the Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing announced that it's going to be fixed.
The two projects will center in and around mile 3.5 near Benny's Apartments and Reimer's Feed Mill. First they will work on the roundabout which is sinking and cracking and the second project will "rehabilitate the road pavement and address areas of the road structure between the Mile 3.5 roundabout and Ladyville that are experiencing what is called, differential settlement - basically, the road is sinking in some areas.
Works are scheduled to begin in a week and will last for six months. So, those who traffic this area of the highway should expect disruptions to the flow of traffic. A release says "There may be occasions where it is restricted to one lane or diversions if necessary."
The public is advised to exercise extreme caution at all times when passing the worksites by reducing speed, obeying traffic warning signs, and following the instructions of flag persons at all times.
