And, changing subjects now, if you live anywhere between Belize City and Belmopan, you probably woke up today to a dusky haze outside your window, and the smell of smoke filling your nostrils. That's because this fire season has seen a lot more activity than the ones in recent years.
We've previously reported that the fire groups in the surrounding areas have been gearing up - especially since they anticipated that the hurricane last year would have caused a much more intense season.
And just like they predicted, wildfires have been springing up constantly - but not by chance. Rather, most of them are man made, and according to the project coordinator at the Belize Zoo, once someone illegally sets a fire and doesn't monitor it, it affects everyone else's property, health, and lives.
Andrewin-Bohn added that the affects to human respiratory health is their most pressing concern.
And just as a reminder, before you light a fire, you must have a permit, and while you may be tempted to light it during the hottest part of the day, that can cause it to spiral out of control.
In addition, fires should always be monitored until they are extinguished.
