It may be the most ill fated airstrip in a country that has many. The airstrip at the Sir Barry Bowen Municipal Airport is now being rehabilitated for the third time in five years. This time the project, quote, "seeks to stabilize undulations and also (perform) a complete resurfacing of the...runway.

But, there's been a delay - and, for the next month or so, planes will have to use the taxi-way and not the runway to land on.

A release from the Belize Airports Authority says, quote, "The Contractor had experienced delays in works due to a shortage of...bitumen in- country...The rehabilitation of the taxiway has been completed and is being used as a temporary runway while works are ongoing on the main runway...(which) is inoperable until 29th July." End quote.

The enhanced airstrip was inaugurated in 2016, and then had to be resurfaced 16 months later in 2018 because it was sinking.
