MNR Confirms That Mangrove Island Inside Hol Chan Not Being Sold

Images of a survey of four islets within the Hol Chan marine reserve have raised alarm. Multiple sources on San Pedro say the lands are have been surveyed and subdivided to be shared out to private individuals.

Well, the CEO in the Ministry of Natural Resources tells us that's not happening. Paul Thompson told us these are all national lands and remain that way. He says the Minister's wish is to vest the properties totally in the hands of the Hol Chan Marine Reserve as a legal entity.

He acknowledges that persons have applied for the lands - but no title will be given to private individuals.
