The appearance of an oil slick in the Placencia lagoon earlier this week spurred howls of protest and accusation from the village's expatriate community.
But the Department of the Environment has concluded that no source of the contamination can be determined.
They told us today that what appears to be light fuel has now completely evaporated. They could not link it to any accidental spill by a member of the public. They also conducted tests on MnM hardware fuel tanks to monitor pressure and performance, evaluated their inventory, dug and searched for contamination of soil around the tanks and nothing was found. The DOE says, quote, "we can definitively rule out the service station having a spill, as was alleged." End quote.
