Most of the AIDS effort is centered around removing the social stigma attached to HIV/AIDS but today health professionals gathered to come up with a plan to treat persons living with the disease.
Director of the AIDS program Dr. Paul Edwards today told us that the treatment needs to be standardized.
Dr. Paul Edwards,
"It is of paramount importance especially when you talk about standardization of treatment. Someone in Corozal, Toledo, or Belize District satisfying criteria will be on the same medication, as they need. And then if you have resistance building the doctors would now to know to move from one regiment to the other. So definitely you know its of paramount importance to know the clinical management of HIV/AIDS."
"At the ministry of health we know it's lacking, if you take a look at for example we have a VCT center so most of our patients are treated there or at the KHMH so we are thinking of expanding that countrywide. But to do we need to have people trained who can manage those centers. So that's why we are holding this workshop here today."
More than 40 doctors participated in the workshop today and tomorrow nurses will join the seminar.
