Earlier on, we showed you the effort to bring awareness to the problem of domestic violence with a symbolic torch run. Well today, that effort was given tangible, not symbolic, support. This afternoon Scotia Bank donated $24,000 to the Haven House Shelter for battered women. The check was handed over at Scotia Bank's main branch on Albert Street. Scotia Bank's Country Manager Pat Andrews did the giving and Financial Secretary Dr. Carla Barnett, who sits on the board of Haven House, received the check. Andrews says the cause is worthwhile.
Dr. Carla Barnett, Board Member - Haven House
"We are putting a new fence around the premises, it is something that we've been wanting to do for a long time so the funds will go primarily to that. There's an ongoing set of projects that the Board has put together to develop Haven House so it can better deliver services to the women who find themselves in the position of having to seek a safe place."
Pat Andrews, Country Manager - Scotia Bank
"We do receive a lot of requests and we try to satisfy most of the requests that we get. We are strong believers that our bank should be giving something back to the community. Haven House we saw as something that was definitely necessary. What Haven House is doing for women and for children, we feel that it is something that needs immediate attention and that is why we chose Haven House."
