A Mennonite couple has died of carbon monoxide poisoning in the village of Blue Creek in the Orange Walk District. On Saturday 29 year old Samuel Rempel and his 31 year old wife Aganetha were cleaning out a cement water reservoir under the house. They were they were using a water pump to empty out the water reservoir and fumes from the exhaust mixed with restricted oxygen supply to generate carbon monoxide poisoning – which killed them both – inside the reservoir.

Police believe that only one may have been working inside the reservoir and when he or she collapsed from carbon monoxide inhalation, the other went to help – and he or she then got poisoned as well. A post mortem confirmed that they died as a result of carbon monoxide inhalation.
