Eight days after he was rushed by air ambulance to Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Galveston, Texas tonight we can report that nine year old Kent Flowers Jr.’s progress has been encouraging, but his condition is still critical. According to reports he must undergo weekly surgeries for the next eight weeks to replace most of the skin he lost during the fire.

Kent Flowers Jr. was in his family’s yard along with his dad, who was tending to his vehicle when a gasoline container next to the vehicle exploded where the boy was standing. Kent Flowers was engulfed in flames and suffered third degree burns to eight five percent of his body. According to reports from the US, as usually occurs in any severe burn case, the nine year old’s kidneys suffered some damage but we understand that is now under control.

According to Rotarian Yvette Burks from the BERT Ambulance Service they have also been encouraged by the financial donations they have been receiving to help cover the cost to transport the young burn patient to the United States. From a thirty three thousand dollar bill, they now owe ten thousand, one hundred and forty three dollars. So if you would like to make contributions you can do so simply by contacting Yvette Burks at BERT.
