But we don’t expect that she’ll need to retain any more attorneys to defend her against salacious claims made in a bogus statement purporting to be from the City’s financial Controller Dwain Davis. We say bogus because while the statement says it is “from the desk of Dwain Davis” he told us he knew nothing about it and had nothing to do with it.
And indeed, while intriguing and quite clever, the so-called release is clearly a scandal sheet and not much else. But what does make it interesting is that it is sufficiently detailed to make it clear that it was put together by someone with a fairly detailed inside knowledge of the workings of the council.
It claims that the council paid expenses in cash to cover debts for political conventions and election operations. It also makes other claims of mishandling and gross misuse of council funds in retaining legal counsel. Claims which we cannot repeat without proof or some first hand account.
But like we said, the release is bogus and thus the claims – though exciting and in the current climate, believable - are illegitimate – and can only be treated as rumour.
