5 more singers will take it to the next level on Friday night at the Bliss. You’ll see it live here on Channel 7, but the entertainers are in their final stages of preparation. And that means more than just learning their lyrics – they’ve also been visiting the doctor. It is all a part of the next level project experience. So what does going to the doctor have to do with their vocal performance? Keith Swift found out that it has plenty.
Keith Swift Reporting,
Today ear, nose and throat specialist Dr. Atanascio Cob got up close and personal with Next Level Project participant Leon Banks – checking his nose, ears, throat, and lungs. Doctor cob says any good singer needs a check-up before a big performance.
Dr. Atanascio Cob, Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist
“A lot of them just took their voice for granted and if they want to be professional singers they need to be aware that there are so many things involved with their voices.”
And it is a good thing Leon went for the check-up because under doctor’s orders – he might not perform on Friday.
Leon Banks, Next Level Project Participant
“The doctor he told me that if I don’t get better by Friday I am not singing.”
Keith Swift,
“When he says get better what is the problem?”
Leon Banks,
“If my throat clears up and if the runny nose and everything stops.”
As a requirement for the show all 10 participants visited Dr. Cob where they were weighed and nurses checked their blood pressure. But the focus was on their ears, noses, throats, and lungs. Dr. Cob is the expert.
Dr. Atanascio Cob,
“We need to make sure that all the things that are involved in the production of voice are okay. As you know sound is produced by the vibration of the vocal cords but there are so many things involved for the voice to be produced. So all these things, the movement of the tongue, the movement of the jaw - all these things we look forward to see if they are problems so that the voice can be well produced. Some of them come very talented but they need to take care of their voice.”
Keith Swift,
“If not for this show, would you have come and gotten tested?”
Leon Banks,
“Not at all. I would have just performed and the show would have been flawless.”
Friday’s show starts at 9 pm. You can see live in person at the Bliss Center or right here on Channel 7. If you want tickets they are available for $10 each at CYs, Mala’s and the Bliss Center.
