Earlier we told you about the 82nd Cross Country Cycling Classic. You already know who won and who lost but there are some contributions overlooked like the National First Aid Team. It is a group of youths who were at the finish line waiting to assist. They’ve been doing it for 4 years and Darwin Slusher is the leader. He told us what was their contribution.
Darwin Slusher,
“We’re a team of young teenagers starting at age 15 and older. We train in advanced and basic life support, first aid, water rescue. We had a staff of 15 medics at the finish line providing whatever support whether it be asking for water or Gatorade or just actually providing medical help. Our staff was actually out here contributing in that manner. So we had one patient but it was something minor. It is just to give the racers out here support because just words would actually go far. Not only your medical training or medical background but encouraging words and inspiring words to the riders will actually bring them a long way.”
