As the numbers remain low, Belize is patiently waiting for their shipment of the vaccines from the COVAX facility expected to come either late this month or early next month.
Meanwhile, Jamaica has gotten its first shipment. They are the first Caribbean country to get theirs, and today they received 14,400 doses of the Oxford/Astra Zeneca. This delivery is part of the first phase of deliveries for the country, and they are expected to continue receiving doses through May until it reaches 124,800 doses.
15 countries will received just over 2.1 million doses of COVAX vaccines by May, including Belize.
In the meantime, the IDB has approved the first hybrid sovereign guarantee operation, with an investment loan and a guarantee for Belize. This guarantee, which amounts to 2.1 million dollars, will provide support for interventions to contain the transmission of the virus by increasing and facilitating access to COVId 19 vaccines.
Additionally, the investment portion which consists of a 2.8 million dollars will facilitate vaccine accessibility. The component will finance investment for the National COVID 19 Vaccine Introduction Plan involving activities to strengthen logistics of conservation, distribution and deployment of vaccines.
