Tonight 5 more Belizeans(!) have lost their lives to complications caused by COVID-19. It's a frightening one day total - and brings the total deaths since Saturday to 12.
Four of today's deaths were unvaccinated with the fifth having received only one dose of the vaccine.
It's a dire situation that's only compounded by 223 new confirmed cases and 43 hospitalized patients - 29 of the 43 unvaccinated, and 11 persons are in the ICU - 6 of them unvaccinated.
And tonight, as in recent weeks, the Belize district remains the country's COVID spot hotspot with 67 of the 223 new cases localized here.
But while we're certainly seeing worrisome numbers, Belize's vaccine count continues to be encouraging with 193,769 Belizeans having gotten at least one dose and 127,508, more than a quarter of the population, being fully vaccinated.
