And with all the relaxations easing, if personal responsibility isn't kept, we might see COVID cases increasing. And that means tourists who must purchase travel insurance might actually have to use it. We asked the minister if he feels it's contradictory to have the insurance in place while easing the restrictions.

Hon. Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health and Wellness

"That's a BTB issue but I think that the travel insurance, it's not just focused on COVID, it looks at all other things, all other illness, people come into this country, have different condition issues, whether it's a heart issue, whatever medical condition so it is really behind that that I think the travel insurance was done. It's not generally because of COVID so, and again, we have to realize that we cannot continue, I'm talking not from an economic standpoint, we cannot continue to stifle our economy. People want to come to visit Belize, we have beautiful nature, wonderful seas, pristine rivers, and nature beauty at its best, people want to come and enjoy Belize. But they come in with these conditions and this is where we are. Gradually the world is opening up and we at Belize at the same time cannot be left behind. We also need to look at these things and say, welcome to Belize, but you're welcomed to Belize under these conditions."
