And earlier this month, the bus for the Belize Association of Persons With Diverse Abilities was involved in a traffic accident after their brake line failed while on a hill. The bus sped down to the bottom of the hill, frightening the passengers. No one was hurt in the accident, though, but reports are that if it weren't for the skills of the driver, it could have been much worse.
Since then though, the bus has been at the mechanic, leaving those who need it without their transportation. We spoke to the Minister about this.
Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Minister of Human Development

"The update is that it's at the mechanic [laughs] you know and because there are some problems with the ramp and the lift. Now now I have given instruction with that having come to my attention that if it's a difficulty that that particular mechanic cannot deal wit we have to move We have to somebody else that can fix the problem. Because we shouldn't have the disability bus down for 2-3 weeks so I again I have to have to admit and lately as I have said to the gathering this morning lately I have been full of apologies but it is because it is highlighted the needs that are there. I mean I am not knowledgable about the mechanics of having a lift to put a wheelchair into a bus. And if there is a difficulty there we have to find somebody who can solve it quickly.
