And while the CT Scan is news - we're still puzzling over why last week's Cabinet Brief had to include the news that Cabinet approved the purchase of three fixed x-ray machines for the Northern and Southern Regional hospitals and the San Ignacio Community Hospital.
Invented in 1895 - X-Ray machines are not news in the 21st century - or are they? They are for the Minister of Health and Wellness - he was beaming about them:
Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health and Wellness
"A few weeks ago I had received complaints that the x-ray machine I got a report from the Northern regional Hospital that the x-ray machine was not functioning properly and they were sourcing technical support. Remember now these three machines that I'm talking about that we have to replace we're donated equipment that we're donated to the ministry. I use this phrase. Sometimes I say free thing is not always a good thing. No offense to anybody, but when things go wrong like these, we have to address them and so I felt that it was very critically important for me to take that to cabinet and the cabinet willingly approved that we acquire equipment because at the end of the day we want to ensure that we are able to provide these basic services to our facilities, northern regional hospitals support, both Corozal and Orange Walk and including San Pedro residents sometimes even Belize city residence go to the northern regional hospital, our San Ignacio community hospital is the only community hospital in the entire Western region apart from western region we need to also ensure that their equipment is up to full shape and running, and our concerns as well in the southern region, they have been concerned as well that the machine keeps malfunctioning and so this is one of the reason why we are making sure that the ministry will procure this equipment, and we are looking at a good quality brand that we want to ensure that we have an up-to-date machine that will be able to suffice for us for a long time."
