And in a progress report from the morning’s deliberation in caucus by the Heads of Government, this afternoon, Deputy Secretary General Edward Green said that the leaders did come up with a plan to respond to the global financial meltdown.
Edward Green, Deputy Secretary General
“The heads have made it quite clear that in their discussions this morning that they needed to have a clear roadmap of how they will proceed to deal with the financial crisis and that is exactly what they did this morning and they have identified that by the end of March they would have met again to at least identify their collective strategies.
What they were clear on is that it is important for them to reduce the effects on the people of the region; that was clear. What they did say is that they want a speedy report from the technical people who are on the field and who know. They want a speedy set of policy recommendations so that they can deal with and while it was being said that we can probably have that meeting just ahead of the summit which is still middle of April, it was agreed that that was too late, that action is required immediately.”
In attendance at the meeting are Trinidad and Tobago PM, Patrick Manning, Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding, Guyanese President Bharrat Jagdeo, and the Prime Minister of Barbados Owen Mitchell among others. The leaders are being hosted at a reception at the House of Culture this evening and they wrap up tomorrow afternoon.
