Tonight, 7 Cubans are being held at the San Pedro Police Station after they were found washed up on the beach in the Boca Del Rio area of northern San Pedro Town.

According to the San Pedro Sun, they landed at around 2:00 am, and police were called. The 7 were taken into custody and a doctor was called to administer a checkup. They were found to be in good health and will be held at the San Pedro police station until they can be processed by the Immigration Department.

The circumstances of their arrival and the details of their ordeal at sea are not known at this time.

Items found on the boat include a makeshift engine, a container of diesel fuel, a converted car engine, water, clothes, personal belonging, tools and a beat-up compass. The boat appears to have been disabled. We'll keep following their case. In some cases Cuban shipwrecks are flown back to their country, or in others they are declared shipwrecks and- providing their vessel can be fixed- they are sent on their way.
