The President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame is coming to Belize for a visit from September 14 to 15, 2022. He will make history as the first African head of state to visit Belize.

When he recently traveled to Kigali, Rwanda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in June, Prime Minister Briceño invited Kagame to visit Belize.

A government statement says, quote, "Impressed with the President's visionary leadership and complete transformation of Rwanda, from a country devastated by genocide in 1994 to one of the fastest growing economies in Africa, the Government of Belize recognizes Kagame's stellar accomplishments. As such, he will be conferred with the Order of Belize on September 14, 2022." End quote.

Kagame - who has been president for the past 22 years - will sign bilateral agreements in Belize and will address a joint sitting of the House and Senate. He is also expected to deliver a lecture at the University of Belize and is planned to host a press conference before he leaves. The time for these events is yet to be confirmed.
