Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde has returned to the country after representing Belize at the G-77 summit. He travelled to Havana last week - where he was among some of the most powerful world leaders from emerging economies. Leader of 134 nations attended including Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro, Colombia's Gustavo Petro, and Argentina's Alberto Fernandez alongside Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
In his remarks, Hyde addressed the unjust sanctions against Cuba by the United states:
Cordel Hyde, Deputy Prime Minister
"The question is what will we do about this continued designation of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism and internal embargo imposed on the people of Cuba. The nefarious blockade against the people of Cuba are on a front to the humanitarian assistance all across the world by this one small country."
"The embargo and designation of state sponsor of terrorism must end. We meet at a time form our people all over the developing world, a buffet of external internal calamities breathes down our throats, the sky rocketing cost of living mixed with crushing poverty, mixed with low income has been a deadly cocktail for our collective people of the south. It's like we are on a downhill march to perdition, it's like the end is neigh and we can't do anything about it and I don't believe that. We can, but we must do it together."
