It's the storm of the young century so far - and the recovery from Hurricane Melissa continues in Jamaica - where it claimed over 100 lives.
BEL is doing its part by deploying its second team of Power Line Technicians to the island nation to continue supporting power restoration efforts. They left Belize on Sunday, January 4, to assist Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS), which is the island's sole electricity distributor.
The team is led by Technical Supervisor, Jeremy Jex, and includes Power Line Technicians Gregory Kerr, Brian Gentle, Emry Gill, Owen Nolberto, Paul McCalla, and Andres Catch. They join regional crews from the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation to restore electricity to communities affected by the hurricane.
Presently, Jamaica still has 10% of customers without power supply - which is down from 77% right after the storm.
