This morning the Silver Creek Bridge located on the Hummingbird Highway was officially opened. After the existing bridge was damaged by floods a temporary one was put alongside the construction site and for months the traffic in the area was diverted. Today that officially came to and end as a new European Union funded bridge was inaugurated. Minister of Works Mike Espat explains the importance of the bridge in times of flooding.

Hon. Mike Espat, Minister of Works
"As you all know this area is prone to major flooding. Therefore you may note that along with the building of this new bridge, there has been major work done to improve the drainage of the area with the construction of a large culvert right ahead, not too far from here, that was also a part of the construction when they did the designing for this new bridge. It is no expected that the level of flooding will be less dramatic in the future and that the area will be safer for the residents and around Silver Creek."

The bridge came in at a cost of $1.5 million.
