We aren't sure just how many motorists break the law everyday but we do know a good number of them have been able to safely scoot away simply because traffic officers on foot have not been able to catch up to the four-wheeled felons. Well, that luck may just have run out today, thanks to the donation of some new sets of wheels.

Gilbert Pitts, Traffic Coordinator - Belize City Council
"It was very difficult because as you that people are running the

lights and we cannot go after them. They were doing a lot of things that can really cause major accidents but with these bikes we will be able to get out there and regulate the traffic in a much better and safer way. This will definitely help us a lot because right now you know the traffic congestion in Belize City is very hectic and so the officers will be able to get around and through."

Part of the proceeds to purchase the four 125cc Meilun motorcycles came from a local business house that wishes to remain anonymous. The Belize City Council provided the remaining funds.
