The Supreme Court has a new judge; he is 63 year old Oswell Legall, 63, from Guyana. He took the oath of office at a special sitting held this morning in the Chief Justice’s Courtroom and presided over by acting C-J Samuel Awich. Starting next week Monday, March second, the auspiciously named Legall will begin working as a judge in civil and criminal cases.
Justice Legall’s experience in the legal system began when he was called to the Bar in November 1978, where he first served as a Senior Crown Council in the DPP’S office in Guyana until 1982. He then went on to being the Senior Crown Council in the Chambers of the Attorney General, British Virgin Islands from 1983 until 1987. From 1992 to 1999, he practiced privately and 1999 until 2004, he served as a judge of the Supreme Court of Guyana.
Legall will start dealing with civil matters next week.
