The Ministry of Works is bulking up its fleet of heavy equipment. This morning, Minister Boots Martinez handed over ten tipper trucks, one line marker machine, a tar tanker and a loader. It’s a part of a transformation of the Ministry to get it into a position where it can maintain all the roads in the country – rather than out-sourcing the work from private contractors. At the handing over in Belmopan this morning, Martinez and his CEO Cadet Henderson spoke about the importance of the acquisition.
Hon. Anthony Boots Martinez, Minister of Works
“I think this in itself is a big boost to the Ministry. At the inception when I inherited and became the Minister of Works it was a difficult task working

with no equipment or merely basically a small amount of equipment in the Ministry of Works, most of which were sold under the previous administration and we decided that at the end of the day as the Ministry of Works should be the leading infrastructural body in this country to deal with the highways and farm and feeder roads, we have acquired a new brand line-marking machine so that in itself is very important for us. For safety and for the motoring public we will be partnering with that doing all the necessary signs especially on the main highway.”
Cadet Henderson, CEO – Ministry of Works
“I want to ensure the motoring public that hereafter we will make our special effort or put our endeavour best into sourcing materials such as the reflective paint and the Cat sized road studs we need to address the almost 400 miles of main paved road that we have. We will commence with those areas that are most indeed where we have the highest traffic volume and where we have the most incidents of fatality.”
This acquisition represents an increase of approximately forty five percent in the Ministry’s fleet of heavy equipment. The package also includes tools and some specialized clothing.
