And what about those new fire trucks that the department just got? They’re eight in total, acquired at a cost of four hundred and fifty thousand dollars. But a British news outlet, the Portsmouth News says that the fire trucks were actually a donation from the county Durham fire fighters in the UK which donated not 8, but 12 of them to Belize.
That small British report which citied no sources and was about 90% shorter than this story will be – has created quite a stir locally. Well today we spoke with CEO in the Ministry of Transport George Lovell who told us that it was not a donation; every step of the transaction is documented in black and white, and they have receipts to prove the purchase.
So what’s the basis of the British report. He says it’s all just made up. And to prove it,. Lovell has written to the British Paper requesting a retraction along with an apology. He warns the paper that failure to do so will result in the government of Belize seeking legal redress.
