The fight over 8 year old Chelsey Gentle is moving from the street to the court. She is the 8 year old child in the middle of that nasty war between her real and adoptive parents. It reached a head last week when the biological mother Kelanie Gillett didn’t return the child to the adoptive mother Lupita Bejerano in the time frame she promised. A missing persons report was filed and Kelanie handed over Chelsey to the police late yesterday. But it’s not done yet because a much calmer Kelanie Gillett today told us that she never signed over custody of her daughter and that is she is taking the Human Development Department to court. Kelanie says that when the Human Development Department took her daughter away from her, she was 14 and in jail at the time.

Kelanie Gillett, Birth Mother
“Right about now I don’t have no signature on any document in black and white that I signed over no custody to no adoptive parent for my child. I think that Social made a big mistake, don’t want to give me back my child, must be thinking in their head that she is unfit, she can’t do this. But Keith put it on the other side, at fourteen years old I was just a kid myself, I had a mother.

Why Social didn’t do it with the right procedures. Why didn’t they go look for Kelanie mom’s and ask her that we need to go through this procedure and will you give up this child to foster mother. Nothing like that. My mother cried her living tears to see what Social did to we, Social just give my child to this lady and didn’t even come and say Miss Gentle your daughter is in Ranchito. Social didn’t even give me visiting rights to go visit my child. I have to cry to the lady who has my daughter to beg she to tell her please mek I take her to park.

I have pictures Keith which I would want to show to the media right now to show what all I do for my pickney because they said I gave her away like a dog. Why in the world would I give away my pickney. I would never do that.”
