And while Coote's alleged killer finds himself facing remand tonight, one Belize City woman finds herself homeless, the victim of a fire, left without a roof over her head.

It's the type of tragedy that no one should ever have to endure but inevitably houses burn, and when they do victims like 72-year-old Tanisha Chavez are left stunned, without possessions, without direction, and without tangible memories.

And this evening as the KHMH domestic shuffled through the ashes of her former home she told Cherisse Halsall what it's like to lose everything in what seemed like a flash. Here's that story.

This burnt shell on Complex Avenue is all that remains of the house that Tanisha Chavez once called home.

This morning, before the fire it was a refuge for her and a place where her children and grandchildren were comfortable enough to make frequent visits, but all that has changed.

And this evening the newly homeless 72 year old spoke to 7 News and told us what little she knows about the cause of this devastating fire.

"Really and truly I don't know because this morning I got up and washed clothes and I went by clinic and when I left from the clinic I went and took a paper fro my daughter directly to registry. Coming back a police officer, a young lady, hailed me and she told me that her aunt told her that the house was on fire so I hurried up and I got the two dollars van and I came this side. To my reveal I came and I saw my house just like this."

Tanisha, a domestic at the KHMH spent the last two years doing her part to fight Covid in the halls of the nation's largest hospital. But this morning, facing the loss of her home she found says she found herself helpless to act.

"Well I didn't know what to do next and I just came and I found my son and my nephew this side and I stayed here for a little while and I went back out because I didn't like the state the house was in. It was well furnished, it had everything in it and everything. I have a big system, my sofa, I had a fridge, everything bed, everything in there. It just went in flames."

And this evening when her hospital colleagues arrived

Tanisha was still collecting the last of her belongings, the uniforms she put out to dry before the fire. The question now is where will she go?

"Later I'm going to one of my sister's until I can get assistance. Whatever assistance I can get I will be thankful and grateful."

It's a forced new start for his hard-working mother and Grandmother one that she'll have to find the fortitude to fight through and to perhaps overcome.

Anyone wishing to reach-out to offer assistance to Chavez can reach her on her cell at 636-5494.
