Last month, we told you that the forward operating base at Sarstoon was in danger of collapsing into the sea. Erosion had taken a major toll on the structure and the BDF had to move fast to temporarily relocate the soldiers normally stationed there to Barranco while the necessary repairs are done.
Today, we got an update from the Minister of Defense, who said that they're going to wait for advice from the engineer before jumping into the project.

Hon. Florencio Marin, Minister of Defense & Border Security
"Not as yet because the engineers were there just last week Friday. We are waiting for their report as to what needs to be done. If maybe I had at least seen some pictures because I know some pictures were circulating, I mean it's a different kind of ground. Under the base it's almost completely water, even the small ablution and the water tank, if you noticed, they were leaning to a side. So, I need to know what the engineers have to say, they are the professionals, they will tell us what needs to be done."

"Sir, possibly removing it from that location completely?"
Hon. Florencio Marin, Minister of Defense & Border Security
"Let me see what the engineers tell us that needs to be done. I am not the professional, so I prefer to hear from them what they suggest."

"How important is it though for the BDF to remain in that area given that the continued threat we have from the Guatemalans entering?"
Hon. Florencio Marin, Minister of Defense & Border Security
"It is very important, that it why the base is there. So, if you noticed, we said temporarily moving them to Barranco. So, we have not decided to shift them away from there, then again well, we just need to fix up."
