By all outward appearances, registrar of cooperatives Zenaida Moya, did her job the right way, pointing out abuse, excess and reckless fiscal indiscipline in the management of Northern Fishermen Cooperatives. Her report on northern was leaked to Northern members, and they gave it to Seven News where we broadcast some of her finding which alleged that uncollateralized loans of over a million dollars had been given to the chairman, and a half a million dollar salary advance had been given to the CEO, among other prodigious abuses. Well, that's the last whistle Ms. Moya is going to blow on the country's biggest co-op, because effective yesterday, she was transferred. A letter from the public services commission dated September 30th., tells Ms. Moya that she has been transferred to the post of supervisor of credit unions. That means Moya will move from the ministry of fisheries and cooperatives to the ministry of finance. Strictly speaking, it's a lateral move, as she continues to receive the salaries and benefits of a senior public officer, but now she has no purview over the northern fishermen cooperative. That's sure to a be a big relief for northern's embattled administration, which continues to ignore Moya's directives and has not held the special general meeting which she has ordered. In a testy letter dated September 29th., the day before she was transferred, Moya sternly advised chairman Santiago Marin that she is using her powers under the law to summon the special general meeting for Saturday October 9th., at the Holy Redeemer Parish Hall. This conflicts directly with the board's plan to have the meeting on the 15th. Members we spoke to this evening say that presently they don't know when the special meeting will be held but the last they heard from the manager that it would be held on the 15th. In the co-op's conference room,. which can hardly accommodate even half of the Co-op's 678 members.
