The senate special select committee that's been tasked to conduct a probe of Social Security's management of investment funds gathered yesterday in Belmopan to start laying the groundwork for the historic hearings. And from the get-go, the bulk of the work involves gathering the documentation that will inform the investigation. That means a full review of company records, loans, investments and guarantees. But even with all that, chairman senator Godwin Hulse, is requesting more information, specifically on the details of all securities provided to guarantee loans made by the Social security Board.
The special select committee is also asking that Social Security's investment committee cease and desist from approving any further loans. The special select committee has the representation of one senator each from the business, church, government and unions. The opposition has been granted membership but has decided to sit out in protest of what it calls an insufficient process.
